nUb Raver Tuesday #39

This week’s edition of nUb Raver Tuesday features new tunes by Crookers, Coeur De Pirate, Kap10Kurt, Redlight, MSTRKRFT, Haydn Hoffman, and more! Click –> HERE <-- for all the previous editions of nUb Raver Tuesday!

I am going to whip right through this edition of NRT…BUT, before I do that, I wanted to remind you that we are quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of nUb Raver Tuesday! Can you believe that I even bothered doing this, let alone kept it going for one year? That is truly a testament of my passion for electro, as well as the ultimate sacrifice – my precious time. My first NRT was written (poorly) on March 3, 2009. So I will prepare a special anniversary edition of NRT on March 2, 2010! More than likely though, I will probably take a couple weeks off from here until then…not because I need the time to prepare the writeup, but because I want to. :P You guys can SUCK IT! I’ve spent way too much time dealing with this nUb raver ish! ANYWAY…

I’m not a huge fan of the newer track We Love Animals by CROOKERS, which features Brazil’s MIXHELL and SOULWAX. This collaboration sounds almost too good to be true. Unfortunately, it falls short (imo) of whatever expectations you might have had. As much as I love Crookers, I’ve honestly been disappointed with most of their stuff over the past six months or more…definitely NOT the banger-quality material they were coming out with in 2008 and early 2009. Nevertheless, the respected duo will almost always remain a staple choice for dance music DJs and remixers, such as LA duo RELIGION who released an excellent remix of We Love Animals. Religion have put together a nice string of remixes over the past year, so it’s no surprise that people like myself are starting to take more notice.

You might have figured this out by now, but with my erratic schedule, I often select the featured songs for any given NRT about a week in advance. Then, come Saturday or Sunday afternoon, I start filling in the blanks with the bullshit you are reading right now. More often than not, I select songs sometimes hastily and then find myself asking “I don’t remember what this song sounds like at all!” and/or “why did I upload this again?” But, this is not one of those cases, I assure you. ;) Ok, so I don’t know anything about BARRETSO, but this remix of his catchy electro-pop song We Won’t Stop by Australia’s REDIAL is pretty effing amazing. Wow, I think I might just have to listen to this again. ;)

Coeur De Pirate

Coeur De Pirate

I guess I just now am in the midst of discovering twenty-year old Canadian singer/songwriter Béatrice Martin, better known as COEUR DE PIRATE. Her brand of indie-acoustic pop music calls to mind many others in the same vein, such as Olivia Ruiz and Cocoon to name a few. But, it seems like she has some momentum building rapidly within the indie music scene. Without knowing anything else about her, I am pretty fond of this remix of her song Comme Des Enfants by trio LE MATOS (who we’ve heard from before), also from the Quebec area. Even if I haven’t heard the original song, I can tell Le Matos has done a great job here…sounds like a splendid French electro-pop song. Let me also just say, for the record, that I really hate endorsing artists like this when I know absolutely nothing about them. Not to mention, I haven’t even bothered listened to any of her other songs. Ahem, with that said…

3. Coeur De Pirate – Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix)

I absolutely love NY producer Kap10Kurt, who’s one of the few retro-fused electro DJs out there, alongside the likes of MOULINEX, SYMBOLONE, among others. I’m pretty sure this might be old news, but I love the remix of his jam Dangerseekers by one of the finest French remix DJs out there, TEPR. You should like this one…

4. Kap10Kurt – Dangerseekers (TEPRs Highspeed on the Highway Remix)

I heart REDLIGHT! Duh. I’ve been talking about the dude for months, and I’ve shared many of his remixes and such with you during that time. His latest stroke of genius was a remix of the song Bangkok by German techno DJ BORIS DLUGOSCH. Me likes a lot!

5. Boris Dlugosch – Bangkok (Redlight Remix)

My latest favorite discovery has been Belgian electro trio THE SUBS. If you haven’t heard of them, then you better take this opportunity to do so. They often describe their sound as “punk-trance,” and it’s fitting in some sense. This is high-energy electro dance music, and not surprisingly at all, the track Mitsubitchi found its way into the hands of Bob Rifo (aka Bobermann), one-half of THE BLOODY BEETROOTS. Now, it’s just nuts! <3

6. The Subs – Mitsubitchi (Bobermann Remix)

I honestly have no idea when this remix by UK’s BLENDE was released. All I can tell is: it’s an absolute, definition-case BANGER! BANGER! BANGER!!! The song Breakaway is a lesser talked about track by MSTRKRFT on their 2009 album Fist of God, which features Jahmal from The Carps. You know…I think this remix speaks for itself. <3

7. MSTRKRFT – Breakaway (Blende Remix)

Haydn Hoffman

I’m going to leave you with what I consider (possibly) the “next big thing”…OK, as far as electro remixers are concerned. I’ve been closely keeping tabs on Irvine, California’s HAYDN HOFFMAN, who’s released only a handful of remixes so far. Nevertheless, they are all quite impressive. If I recall correctly, I think the first remix that I heard from Haydn was his remix of La La La, the catchy song by LMFAO. Over the past couple months, there have been more remixes and edits coming from this young man – including his mashup-edit of MSTRKRFT’s Street Justice and AMANDA BLANK’s Might Like You Better. Not bad! You might also enjoy his remix of PASSION PIT’s huge hit Sleepyhead. Other than the fabulous remix of Sleepyhead by NEO TOKYO, it’s probably the best remix of the song out there right now. And finally, I think you might appreciate his remix of LE CASTLE VANIA’s Zero Machine, which is an electro BANGER cover and/or remix of the Smashing Pumpkins’ song Zero. Don’t act like you didn’t like that song when you were growing up! Actually (as a side bar), I’ve always really detested that song, despite being a shameless Pumpkins fan in the 1990s. Anyway, that in itself could be drawn out into a huge blog post. Maybe some other time. ;)

Just so any of you regulars know, I will most likely take next Tuesday off. I won’t know until this weekend. Anyway, have a good week everyone! ^^
